Captain Conan To Star At Sandown – Saturday Selections

Sandown have switched to an all chase card in order to safeguard their meeting and there are some very useful horses on show this afternoon.

Captain Conan should comfortably win the Scilly Isles Novices Chase at 2-25. Nicky Henderson has yet another one of the most promising novice chasers this season. He was electric when winning the Henry VIII Novices Chase over this course last time out, comfortably beating the useful Hinterland. There looks plenty more to come on just is third chase start and despite the odds still looks good value to win this.

A large field assembles for the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las and the weights are headed by Lanzarote Hurdle winner Oscara Dara. However, the burden of top weight and conceding upwards of 9lbs could prove too much, especially on the forecast testing conditions. Balder Success lost a shoe when disappointing in the Ladbrokes Hurdle at Ascot and is well worth another chance upped in trip here. Hollow Tree was conceding over a stone when finishing fourth in a handicap hurdle at Haydock and probably didn’t stay last time. If running anywhere near the level of last season’s Grade 1 winning form he should be very tough to beat especially if allowed to dictate.

On Trend returned to form when runner up at Kempton, finishing behind Brackloon High. I fancy him to turn the tables with that rival now despite the ground being less than ideal. Nick Gifford’s charge is likely to have full confidence again after a heavy fall on his seasonal reappearance and can continue his progress.
