Bird Of Light Not Short Of Talent – Saturday Tips

A very busy Saturday afternoon of racing with some top action both here and across over in Ireland. Market Rasen stage a fine afternoon of summer jumps racing which wets the appetite for the jumps season to really kick off in the autumn. There is also the small matter of the second Ashes test throughout the day and lets hope England can get a good total on the board.

The best race of the day is undoubtedly the Irish Oaks (6-15, Curragh). English Oaks heroine Talent goes for the double but faces stiff competition for the crown. Ripose heads the list of dangers judged on her facile Ribblesdale success. However, that looked a rather weak renewal and this is sure to be much tougher. Alive Alive Oh is another taking a step up in class but has a very progressive profile and certainly rates a danger. The vote goes to Talent who brings Classic form to the table and looks to have plenty more to give on just here fifth start.

Some say that the arrival of these valuable sales races has rather detracted from the quality of two year old races but I completely disagree. A field of 25 unexposed youngsters who have the potential to make up into classy performers assemble for the Weatherbys Super Sprint at 3-50. The race is also a great advert for some of the great bargains that can be bought at the sales. Richard Hannon appears to hold a very strong hand in this contest and Lilbourne Lass appears the pick of them. However, it is another Hannon hopeful that gets the verdict, Bird Of Light. She may not have beaten much when making a winning debut at Bath but she displayed an excellent attitude and a touch of class. With plenty of improvement to come she rates a cracking each way bet at 25/1.

Arch Villain To Rule Northumberland – Saturday Afternoon Tips

The Irish Derby is the highlight of Saturday’s flat action and Ruler Of The World can complete the Anglo-Irish Derby Double. He was very impressive at Epsom and despite being very well ridden that day there looks little cause for optimism for Libertarian or Galileo Rock to overturn Epsom form. Expect a comfortable victory for the Ballydoyle contender.

The Northumberland Plate is an intriguing handicap run over two miles at Newcastle. Ile De Re and Tominator are two former winners who are sure to mount a very strong challenge. However, preference is for Amanda Perrett’s rapidly improving four year old, Arch Villain, who looks as though two miles will be right up his street this year. Softer ground is a huge positive and he probably had a fair bit in hand when winning narrowly at Goodwood last time out.
