Clive Cox has made a very good start with his juveniles this campaign and he can strike again with his newcomer, Trinity Boy, in the 2-45 at Leicester. I was at Bath to see Beldale Memory make a winning debut and Clive Cox’s string of two year olds are obviously are fairy forward this year. Trinity Boy looks to have excellent credentials of making a winning racecourse debut.
Sire De Grugy was never going a yard in the Maghull Novices Chase at Aintree but bounced back with an emphatic victory 6 days ago. His jumping was alot better there and if he can keep the mistakes down ought to go very close in the Celebration Chase at 2-40.
The Gordon Richard Stakes is an intriguing contest with some potentially top class horses lining up. Eagles Peak could be anything having only made it to the racecourse three times, he’s clearly been difficult to train but he is certainly in capable hands and should do well this year. The very useful Al Kazeem returns after fracturing his pelvis and the market should guide as to his chances. However, I am going to side with Thomas Chippendale, big things were expected of him last year after his Kind Edward VII stakes victory. He was disappointing in the Leger but is a danger to all if back on track here.
The bet365 Gold Cup looks an outstanding race on paper and promises to deliver. The race looks very open and it may be worth taking a chance on Nick Gifford’s On Trend, providing the forecast rain arrives. He looks a thorough stayer promises to improve for the extra distance. Quicker ground was probably his undoing in the Kim Muir given everything may have been happening to quickly. However, this test looks as though it will suit and is likely to belie his odds of 33/1.
