The 1000 Guineas is the highlight of Sunday’s racing and the race has a much more open feel than the 2000 Guineas. Sir Henry Cecil’s Hot Snap looks to be a very smart prospect judged on her Nell Gwyn victory last time out and there should be plenty more to come. She’s a half sister to the very useful Midday and she could well exceed what her sibling achieved. Just The Judge won the Rockfel Stakes on his final two year old start and looks the type to thrive over a mile this year. However, I am willing to take a chance on Mick Channon’s Ollie Olga. She had Sky Lantern well beaten into second when winning the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood. Despite her poor performance in the Fillies Mile she was sent off second favourite that day and the lack of pace in the race probably put paid to her chances. At 40/1 she looks tremendous each way value in a race where plenty have chances.
Earlier on the card, Dank has an outstanding chance in the Dahlia Stakes at 2-35. Already a Group Three winner, she was possibly feeling the effects of a long season when disappointing at Newmaket at the end of September. The step up in trip looks sure to suit and she is likely to have improved with another winter on her back.
