Mars To Eclipse Sandown Rivals – Saturday Tips

The Coral Eclipse takes centre stage on Saturday afternoon and Roger Charlton’s Al Kazeem goes head to head with Aidan O’Brien’s impressive Queen Anne winner Decleration of War. Al Kazeem has returned to action this year in tremendous style, beating Camelot before reeling in Mukhadram who had slipped the field when winning the Prince of Wales. There appears to be plenty more to come from him and the duel between him and Declaration of War is fascinating. The trip should pose no problems for Declaration of War but ground with firm in may not suit and he was a flop in the Lockinge. Therefore, it is Aidan O’Brien’s other runner, Mars, who gets the verdict. In my opinion Dawn Approach and Toronodo are of a superior quality to Declaration of War and Mars did very well to finish third after being hampered. The 1m 2f trip looks ideal as he probably didn’t get home in the Derby and probably lacked a little bit of pace in the St James’ Palace. With just the four runs he is open to a considerable amount of improvement and Ryan Moore can steer him to victory. At 11/2 he looks the most attractive bet in a fascinating contest.

The Old Newton Cup takes centre stage up at Haydock and it can go the way of Alan Bailey’s Strictly Silver, though Opinion looks a very smart improving colt who will be tough to beat. However, Strictly Silver has handled the step up to 1m 2f very well and shapes as though this extra 2f will be in his favour once again. The slight worry is he can be a bit keen in the early stages, but those fears are allayed given the way he finished off at Newmarket last time out. At the prices Strictly Silver makes most appeal.

40/1 Ollie Olga To Shine – 1000 Guineas Preview

The 1000 Guineas is the highlight of Sunday’s racing and the race has a much more open feel than the 2000 Guineas. Sir Henry Cecil’s Hot Snap looks to be a very smart prospect judged on her Nell Gwyn victory last time out and there should be plenty more to come. She’s a half sister to the very useful Midday and she could well exceed what her sibling achieved. Just The Judge won the Rockfel Stakes on his final two year old start and looks the type to thrive over a mile this year. However, I am willing to take a chance on Mick Channon’s Ollie Olga. She had Sky Lantern well beaten into second when winning the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood. Despite her poor performance in the Fillies Mile she was sent off second favourite that day and the lack of pace in the race probably put paid to her chances. At 40/1 she looks tremendous each way value in a race where plenty have chances.

Earlier on the card, Dank has an outstanding chance in the Dahlia Stakes at 2-35. Already a Group Three winner, she was possibly feeling the effects of a long season when disappointing at Newmaket at the end of September. The step up in trip looks sure to suit and she is likely to have improved with another winter on her back.
